Insomnia is a problem that affects approximately 45% of the population, and every one of us has had trouble falling asleep at least once in our lives. Most often, these types of problems are caused by an overly intense lifestyle, long-term or severe stress, and are temporary in nature. However, sometimes temporary sleep problems turn into something more serious, namely chronic insomnia, which has a very negative impact on the quality of our lives and our well-being. Where does insomnia come from, and how can you deal with it?

Insomnia is a disruption of the normal sleep rhythm and duration that persists for at least a month. With these types of problems, sleep is often shallow, interrupted, and restless. All of this makes the body unable to fully rest and regenerate. Additionally, chronic insomnia is usually accompanied by severe emotional tension, fatigue, and irritability.

In the past, the phenomenon of insomnia occurred mainly among older people. Currently, unfortunately, more and more young people are struggling with chronic sleep problems and reporting this ailment to their family doctor. It should be remembered that insomnia is currently treated as a separate disease entity that requires specialized and comprehensive treatment.

Insomnia - main causes of sleep problems

Sleep disorders can have various causes. Among the most common are external factors, such as heat, noise, or harsh light, as well as somatic factors, such as frequent nighttime urge to urinate, which disturbs rest. Insomnia also has its source in psychotic factors, i.e., those related to depressive disorders or anxiety, and psychogenic factors, such as stress or a strong emotional state that does not allow for calming down and relaxing before sleep.
